Privacy Policy

Yodil exists to hold your family’s most personal memories. That only works if you can trust us completely, so this policy is written in plain English and describes what we actually do, and nothing more.

What we collect

Your account details (email address, name, password), and the content you choose to add: memories, photos, videos, voice recordings, documents, biography chapters, family relationships, and locations you attach to memories. We collect nothing you don’t deliberately put into your archive.

Where it lives

Your account and archive data are stored with Supabase (our database and sign-in provider, hosted in Sydney). Your files (photos, videos, recordings and documents) are stored with Cloudflare R2. Both are established infrastructure providers with their own security practices. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections. A copy of the database is exported to a private, separate store once a week so that a mistake on our side can be undone; those copies are kept for 35 days.

Who else touches your data, and why

We use a small number of services to run Yodil. Each sees only what its job needs:

• Apple: when you turn on notifications in the iPhone app, Apple’s push service delivers them; we keep a device token for that and delete it when you sign out.
• Resend: sends the emails Yodil sends, which are invitations, sign-in links and the occasional reminder.
• Sentry: receives a report when something in the app breaks. The error and where it happened, never your memories, photos, or who you are. There is no session recording.
• Stripe: handles payment if you ever choose a paid plan, on Stripe’s own pages. Card details never pass through Yodil.
• Google Places: when you type a place name, what you type is sent to Google to suggest addresses. OpenStreetMap turns a photo’s coordinates into a place name.
• A flight-data service: if you look up a flight by its number, that number and date are sent to fetch the details.
• Anthropic: the AI writing tools, described below.

Face ID, if you turn it on, is checked entirely on your phone by Apple. Yodil never sees your face or any biometric data; it only learns that the check passed.

Who can see your archive

Only you, and the people you explicitly invite and connect with. Even then, only the memories whose sharing settings you set. There is no public feed, no discovery, and no advertising. Yodil staff do not browse your content; access to production data is limited to what’s technically necessary to run and support the service.

AI writing help

If you use the optional AI writing tools (tidy, polish, suggestions, prompts), the text you submit for that request is sent to Anthropic’s API to generate the result. It is used to serve your request, not to train models. If you never tap an AI feature, nothing is ever sent.

What we will never do

We will never sell your data, show you advertising, or use your family’s memories for anything other than showing them back to you and the people you chose. Your archive is a legacy, not an asset for us to monetise.

Children

Yodil is for adults. A parent or guardian may keep a child’s profile (birth date, milestones, photos) inside their own archive; the guardian controls it, and can hand it to the child when they are grown. Yodil does not knowingly collect information from children directly.

Deleting your data

You can delete individual memories, photos, and people at any time from within Yodil. To erase your whole account and archive, open Account in the app and choose Delete my archive. It removes everything, including stored files, right then. Copies that other people kept of memories they were tagged in stay with them. The weekly backup copies expire within 35 days. If you can no longer sign in, email support@yodil.life from your account’s address and we will do it for you.

Yodil is built and operated in Australia and we aim to handle personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles. If you have a question or concern about your data, contact us and a human will reply.
